The Baluchari sarees are the masterpieces made by the skilled weavers of Bishnupur, West Bengal. Originally woven in the Murshidabad district, these are centuries old and has been granted the status of Geographical indication in India. The distinctiveness lies in its pallu and intricate pattern woven all over the saree. These sarees are categorized based on the threads used. The first one is Baluchari (Resham) - simple patterns woven in single color. The second one, Baluchari (Meenakari) - patterns woven using 2 or more color threads in meenakari work and the final one is Swarnachari - these are woven with gold or silver colored threads.
